Considered a mini-makeover, we left the cherry cabinets on the perimeter of the kitchen and focused our attention on enhancing the island. By adding paneled sides, new rollouts and granite, we were able to make the island look like a piece of furniture. This can be an affordable option for someone whose kitchen just needs "a little" help.
This drywall island with Corian tops has been transformed into a beautiful piece of furniture by refacing the entire surround and adding granite countertops. The drawers below were modified into rollout spice cabinets to make the cooktop area more functional.
No need to replace your cabinets when you can reface for a fraction of the cost. Modifications can be made inside, too, by adding rollouts or changing the function of the drawer/cabinet to fit your needs.
